Star Bread

If you want to impress your family and friends with your mad bread skills you have to try this. It looks so impressive but is really super easy and it’s made with ingredients found in your pantry. You can whip it up on a whim (like I did today) while binge-watching your favorite TV series on your favorite streaming service. The hardest part is rolling out the dough into uniform circles, after that it’s just a matter of layering, cutting, twisting, and then baking.

Did I mention how versatile this is? From twisted cinnamon rolls to twisted garlic bread, it works with just about any flavored bread recipe. It’s a great contribution to a pot luck or a sophisticated addition to your brunch buffet.

Twisted Cinnamon Bread

Who doesn’t love cinnamon bread, and who doesn’t love it more when it is presented in such an eye catching way?! This is such a pretty display that it is perfect for any brunch buffet, but add it to your Christmas morning lineup to amp up the holiday spirit.

Start with your favorite cinnamon roll recipe and prep your dough through the first rising. Divide it into quarters.
Roll the quarters into rounds. Speared softened butter then sprinkle with 1/3 of the filling. Repeat with remaining layers leaving the last one plain. You can use parchment to make transfer to baking sheets easier.
Mark the center using a small glass (~2 1/2”). Using a bench scraper or sharp knife, cut into 4ths, then 8ths using the mark as the end of the cut. Cut the 8ths in half one last time but going just past the center mark.
Twist 2 adjacent sections 2 times in opposite directions and then pinch the outer ends together. Move to baking sheet or cast iron skillet for higher rising breads. Let rise until doubled in size. Brush with egg wash. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
Cool completely and serve with glaze on the side so your beautiful twisted cinnamon rolls can be seen in all their glory.
